Flat Feet & Fallen Arches

Flat feet and fallen arches are often seen associated with sore, tired, and inefficient feet. This problem is often hereditary and is seen in several family members. People feel that  only a certain pair of shoes seem to relieve the soreness: this is probably because these shoes are more supportive. Foot arches act as shock absorbers and help a person bear weight during each step. Inadequate bone or joint alignment accompanied with weak muscles and ligaments allows an arch to flatten and results in flat feet. Many people may notice that they have an arch when they are off their feet and then lose their arch when weight is placed on them; this is a flexible flat foot. People with flexible flat feet often complain of tired, achy feet especially after standing all day. After a period of time the arch may actually appear flattened. People are not usually born with flat feet and it is important to protect the arches of children that have a tendency to form flat feet. There are also people with rigid flat feet who may experience pain due to arthritis of the joints. Treatment varies for different types of flat feet and fallen arches. The feet require expert evaluation to determine the cause of the flat feet and the symptoms associated. If you want relief from your tired, achy, flat feet Dr. Sextro, Dr. Larsen and Dr. Bandel can help. Dr. Bandel specializes in reconstructive flat foot surgery. It is not normal for your feet to hurt.
